What’s Wrong with My AC Unit?

Two of the most common problems we see in AC units are:

  • The air conditioner won’t blow cold air
  • The air conditioner won’t turn on

If your air conditioning unit isn’t blowing cold air, there could be a couple of reasons why. First, go through and check your air filters. When was the last time they were changed? Dirty air filters can block airflow, which can result in a lower-than-normal flow of cool air through your house. If it’s been more than one month since you changed your filters, or if they’re clogged and dirty, swap them out and see if that helps your unit. Another reason for a lack of cold air could be faulty parts, electrical issues, or low refrigerant levels. For these problems. you’ll need a licensed HVAC technician to come and fix it for you.

If your air conditioner unit won’t turn on, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take before calling Mr. Dan’s. First, make sure your thermostat is actually set to cool and set on a temperature that’s 5 degrees lower than the room temp. Beyond that, check your circuit breaker for a blown or tripped fuse. If that’s the case, replace the fuse or flip the breaker back to the “on” position and see if that resolves the issue. If not, your unit could be overheating or short-circuiting, which requires immediate attention from our HVAC experts.
